Chief Executive Caroline Chapman talks about the importance of mental health for all at Civic Service

It was an honour to attend the Barry mayor’s Civic Service at Ysgol Gymraeg Sant Baruc yesterday as one of his chosen charities for the year alongside walking charity Valeways

During the service, Caroline Chapman, Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan Chief Executive, spoke to dignitaries about the urgent need for and the impact of our services over the past year.

She said: “Together with a dedicated team of just 16 staff and 41 volunteers, we supported more than 8,000 people last year. When we include families and loved ones, our work touched approximately 30,000 people in Barry and the Vale.

“We’re embedded in our local communities – working in GP communities, alongside mental health teams, and in partnership with other agencies and community groups.

“I want to say a huge thank you to the Mayor of Barry for choosing us as one of our charities of the year – we are genuinely grateful for his support. Mental health has never been so important.”

The annual event focused on the history and famous alumni of Barry ending with rousing anthems from Barry Male Voice Choir.
