Llantwit Major students show great fundraising initiative
Along with The Vale Food Bank, The schools eco committee, Mind in the Vale were recently invited by the students of Llantwit Major School for tea and cake.
The purpose was to talk about how their fundraising efforts will support community projects in the area. Through a series of non-uniform days and charity events, the students raised £1,600 for their chosen charities last academic year. They also worked on initiatives in school to support student wellbeing, period poverty, reduce litter and reduce the school’s carbon footprint including designing and selling reusable drinks bottles.
A Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan representative said, “It was great to be invited to visit the school and meet the students to hear about how they raised the funds and tell them how their donation will positively impact their local communities.”
Year-12 student Maisy Wiggins said: “It was interesting to meet the charities to hear first-hand how our fundraising efforts would support people.”
Headteacher Cedric Burden said: “We are excited to support the community and so pleased to see excellent young people lead fundraising projects that make lives better.”
